NHT joins other leading housing organizations to recognize that the CDC's eviction moratorium is only a partial step toward housing stability, and urges Congress and the Administration to provide rental assistance, paired with financial support for affordable housing providers, to avoid widespread homelessness and the loss of affordable homes.
Until now, most of the policy response to the health and financial crisis has focused appropriately on immediate relief to those who need it most, including renters. However, a national response is also needed to address renters facing long-term unemployment and heavy housing burdens.
Now, more than ever, our mission to support the housing needs of the most vulnerable members of our communities is needed. Our policy team has published guiding principles by which to inform and evaluate policy responses to the crisis.
The National Housing Trust protects, improves, and maintains
existing affordable housing so that low-income families can live
in quality neighborhoods with access to opportunities.
