Anne Evens is the Chief Executive Officer of Elevate Energy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to designing and implementing efficiency programs that lower costs, protect the environment, and ensure the benefits of energy efficiency, demand response and renewables reach those who need them most. In this role she manages a growing staff of over 100 while providing oversight for programs related to energy efficiency retrofits in affordable housing buildings, energy performance of commercial and residential buildings, regional energy and climate planning, as well as smart grid and dynamic electricity pricing initiatives. Ms. Evens has worked in energy efficiency and affordable housing for twenty years in both the nonprofit and governmental sectors in the U.S. and in southern Africa.
Ms. Evens oversees of several low-income energy programs including the implementation of one of the country’s largest and most successful programs for retrofitting existing multifamily rental housing. The Energy Efficient Building Services Program has retrofitted over 20,000 affordable housing units since 2008. On average, these projects are saving 30 percent on energy costs, or over $10,000 on a typical 30-unit building.
Ms. Evens also oversees expansion of the nation’s first residential, market-based, hourly electricity programs, which serve more than 23,000 customers of two major Illinois utilities. These programs have saved customers more than $21 million in energy costs. Under Ms. Evens guidance, there has been over $42 million dollars invested in energy efficiency since 2008 to help those who need it most.
Ms. Evens sits on the board of the National Housing Trust, the Executive Committee of the Board of the National Center for Healthy Housing and she’s an alumnus of Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program. In addition, she acted as lead researcher on the Chicago Climate Action Plan and Regional Energy Plan for the Chicago Metro Agency for Planning (CMAP). Additionally, she is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the School of Public Health, University of Illinois, Chicago.
